Shane Kilcommins

Professor Shane Kilcommins joined the Law School, University of Limerick in 2014 after lecturing at University College Cork for 13 years.  He lectures in evidence law, criminal law, jurisprudence, penology and criminology.

He was a Visiting Fulbright Scholar at Temple Law School in 2008/2009. He is an examiner for the Law Society of Ireland in criminal law and criminal law and criminal procedure, and has acted as an extern examiner for Trinity College and  University College Dublin. He has developed strong links with various organisations including An Garda Siochana, the Mental Health Commission, the Inspector of Prisons, the Irish Penal Reform Trust, the Association for Criminal Justice Research and Development, the Irish Council for  Civil Liberties, the National Disability Authority, the Victims of Crime Unit in the Department of Justice and Equality, and Commission for the Support of Victims of Crime.He has been appointed by the Minister for Justice and Equality in Ireland to chair a Consultative Council on Penal Policy.

He has authored six book publications in the area of criminal justice and written numerous  peer reviewed articles in national and international journals. He has also published several reports on criminal justice related issues relating to ex-offenders, the needs and concerns of victims of crime, and victims with disabilities in the criminal process.
